An actress who had a small role in the 1994 film “Dumb and Dumber” is suing the City of Santa Monica over injuries sustained at the city-owned seasonal ICE at Santa Monica skating rink on Jan. 18, 2014.
Lisa Stothard, 51, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday along with her actor husband Daniel Bernhardt in Los Angeles Superior Court.
According to reports, Stothard alleges negligence and premises liability, while her husband is suing for loss of consortium (the inability of one’s spouse to have normal marital relations, which is a euphemism for sexual intercourse).
The suit seeks unspecified damages.
However according to reports, in a claim filed prior to the suit, Stothard’s damages were listed at more than $2 million.
According to the complaint, Stothard and the couple’s daughter, Bella, went to the rink to celebrate another child’s birthday.
Many of the skaters were children and teens who were skating at an excessive rate of speed, which was faster than safe, according to the lawsuit.
CBS reports the plaintiffs allege that city employees saw the risky skating, but did nothing to stop it.
Stothard says she decided to take her daughter and her friends off the ice to make sure they were not hurt. But as they were leaving, a boy who was “skating at a wildly excessive rate of speed slammed into (Stothard), dislocating her right ankle and breaking her leg in multiple places,” according to the lawsuit quoted by CBS.
Stothard also appeared in “Gia,” “Kingpin,” and the television series “The Adventures of Sinbad.” Her last on-screen appearance, according to IMDb.com, was in the 2007 short film “Fetch,” which she also executive produced.
