WARSAW – Richard J. Gross, 26, of Byron, N.Y., was being held Monday in the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail on a first-degree assault charge placed against him by State Police after he allegedly drove a 23-year-old camping buddy to the Wyoming County Community Hospital shortly after stabbing him with a hunting knife in a campsite off Bank Road in the Town of Middlebury about 4 a.m Sunday.
The alleged stabbing victim was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for treatment of a collapsed lung. Gross faces possible indictment following a continuing investigation by the State Police Troop A Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Wyoming County District Attorney’s office.
State troopers were assisted in the arrest Sunday morning by Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies and Warsaw Village police officers.
