If you’re caring for someone with type two diabetes or you in fact suffer from it yourself, you know the issues you face. The lifestyle changes that you need to make, the treatments which you need to get used you and the things that you may have loved doing once which you can’t anymore. One thing which you may not have been aware of is that a diabetic’s feet, of all things, are at quite a bit of risk from their condition.

Diabetes, if left untreated or improperly treated, damages the smaller blood vessels in the body. Advanced diabetes can lead to blindness and necessitation for amputation in extreme cases. Damage to the feet can be done very quietly and you won’t notice it until it’s already quite a way along. There are a few tell-tale signs you can look out for to make sure you’re keeping your feet well cared for and through that, keeping your condition under control.

 

Foot Care Tips and Tricks

 

–       Examine your feet regularly and make sure to take note of any sores or wounds and let your GP know as soon as is feasible

–       When you visit your doctor make a point of asking them to examine your feet for any physical or nervous system damage.

–       Keep your feet clean and dry at all times and try and use moisturiser to keep them soft and healthy

–       Wear comfortable shoes as much as you can. Make sure they provide proper support to your feet and don’t rub or chafe.

–       Your health is more important than a fashion statement! Don’t damage your feet for the sake of looking good if you want to keep them!
