Spinal and Manual Manipulations
This refers to a powerful arm thrust aimed at the malfunctioning vertebra to improve the way it functions, reduce the sensitivity and indeed irritability of local nerves and restore the range of motion. This treatment can also be known as a chiropractic adjustment
Mobilisation
Referring to a slow manipulation and stretching of certain muscles and joints so as to increase and restore the range of motion in those areas.
There are various other forms of treatment available to patients of chiropractic care, these could be:
Physical Therapies
These are a broad range of practises which involve varying different techniques and use a variety of equipment. Some examples of this would be ultrasound, electrical stimulation and traction. These are all aimed at helping to ease back pain and reduce inflammation.
Exercises
Similar to physiotherapists, chiropractors will often assign exercises to their patients. These are designed to broaden the range of movement a patient may be able to accomplish and help to continue to lessen any pain or discomfort they may feel in an on-going way.
Pelvic Stabilisation
In an effort to continue to help a patient while out of session, chiropractors may prescribe corrective arch supports for shoes so as to help to maintain the stability or posture of a pelvis.
All in all, the chiropractor is trying to cause a life change for patients so that, eventually, any strains or tensions they may have had will be things of the past!
