Whether the warm weather is back or you’re looking forward to its return, you’re undoubtedly looking forward to getting out there and doing activities. Fortunately, there are plenty of workouts that you can do outdoors to shed those extra pounds. Here are a few warm weather workouts that’ll help you do just that.

Jogging or Running

If you’ve taken a drive around the city lately, you’ve undoubtedly noticed runners around it. Take note of the gear that they’re using. You’ll definitely need a good pair of running shoes. Unless you enjoy the sound of your own breath, invest in a pair of earphones, too. There’s nothing better than going for a quick run around the block or down the street with your favorite tunes blasting. If you run for a solid 30 minutes at 5 miles per hour, you can burn about 300 calories. Just take precautions when you do run, and never run blind — always pay attention to your surroundings, especially the traffic.

Biking

Maybe running isn’t your thing — and that’s perfectly okay. Biking is a perfectly acceptable substitute. The only downside to biking is that you’ll need a ton of equipment. First, you’ll need a bike, which can dramatically range in price. Thankfully, some companies offer bike rentals. You’ll definitely want to invest in a helmet, and you should probably grab a pair of gloves. Check online for local bike routes instead of riding in any direction. You should expect to burn a couple hundred calories every half hour.

Go Swimming

There’s nothing better to do on an extremely hot day than diving into an ice-cold pool. Swimming helps tone both your arms and legs. For those who have issues with joints, the weightlessness of the water makes exercising a breeze. Swimming also helps ward off diabetes. If you don’t know how to swim, invest in lessons as soon as possible. Depending on your weight, the type of swimming that you do, and how large the pool is, you should expect to burn off a couple hundred calories every half hour or so.

Kayaking

Grab a few friends and go kayaking! This sport is a great workout for your upper body. You’ll also work your back and stomach muscles. You’ll need, of course, a kayak, as well as safety gear and a helmet. Depending on your weight and duration of your adventure, you should expect to burn several hundred calories for each hour that you kayak. It’s not a sport for everyone, but if you’re up for the challenge, it’ll definitely give your upper body a workout. Please ensure that you’re physically fit before trying to kayak. If you or someone else you know gets injured, check out a site like ZocDoc before your trip, to find a doctor in the area of your adventure.

SUP Boarding

SUP Boarding, or stand up paddle boarding, will cool you off in an instant. There’s no specific attire for a stand up paddle boarder, but owning a wetsuit is probably a good idea. You’ll also need a paddleboard, obviously. It’s not something that you can master in an afternoon, so if you’re near the ocean, set off a block of time over a period of several weeks where you can practice and master it. You’ll get a great upper body workout, and you’ll burn off a couple hundred calories each hour.

Yoga

Yoga is an extremely relaxing exercise, but it’s very beneficial. You don’t really need any equipment; you just need to stretch prior to starting. You’re not going to be able to do advanced exercises right off the bat, so start light and work your way up. Yoga isn’t the most beneficial exercise to help you lose weight — a gentle half hour workout will only help you lose about 100 calories — but you’ll notice improvements in other areas. For instance, you’ll be way more flexible. It’ll also aid if you have back pain, and it can help if you’re depressed.
