How Meditation could Save Your Life

It’s easy to believe that mediation can relieve stress but for some reason it’s much more difficult for people to accept that the same technique can be used to lessen the chance of heart attack, stroke or even death. Think about this for a moment; think about what stress is and what its effects are. High blood pressure is a fairly common result of high levels of stress and that same blood pressure can increase your risk of heart and disease and, yes you guessed it, heart attacks, stroke and sudden death! It’s like a paper chain of cause and effect which leads us to conclude that a little bit of mediation a day could save your life.

It’s all about letting go and centring yourself on yourself, inner reflection is a tricky thing to master but once you can do it you’ll wonder why you were even stressed in the first place. Find a quiet space and set aside half an hour or so. Cut yourself off, removing any outside distractions and creating peace and quiet. Once you have this breathe deeply and then focus on this breathing. Do this for as long as you can manage, slowing right down and letting the quiet flow over you. You should find your levels of stress melt away like ice under boiling water and looking at things which may have seemed awful without that red haze of stress might reveal them to be not as bad as you thought.

Mediation has no negative side effects and it’s been shown time and time again to be very helpful for those who suffer with high stress jobs and lives. Why not give it a go and see if it helps? At the end of the day you’ve got nothing to lose.
