Post-natal exercises to help lose baby weight

It’s hard enough to find time to fit exercise into your week, not least if you are a new mum – with feeding times and looking after the new addition to your family, fitting in a gym session will seem like an impossible task. However, if you want to shed the baby weight, exercise is important – there are some unique and creative ways to keep active and burn more calories throughout your day.

Exercise doesn’t need to be a marathon or a sprint every time – in fact, it can be quite a relaxed affair. As long as you’re keeping active and burning the calories, it doesn’t matter how you go about it. If you go for a walk every day with your baby for just thirty minutes, you will burn up to 300 calories – if you want to increase the challenge, simply walk faster or jog around the block. It’s also a great way to socialise, by meeting up with friends and getting them to tag along for a chat.

You don’t have to fork out cash and precious time for a gym session three times a week – simply exercise at home! There are plenty of great exercise DVD’s on the market, as well as equipment that is suitable for use in the home, so you can use free weights or stretch bands to create your own effective workout regime in the comfort of your own home. If you don’t feel as though you have the time, try to fit in mini workouts where you can – just five minutes of squats or lunges in the morning and the same of star jumps in the afternoon, for example. However, if you feel as though you’d do a better job on your own, ask a friend or a family member if they wouldn’t mind looking after your baby for an hour once or twice a week so that you can squeeze in a really great workout session where you can really focus on the task in hand.

Finally, make use of the wealth of technology around you and use your smartphone. There are plenty of apps available to help you lose baby weight, such as those which offer nutritional food tips or fitness journals. Each of these apps or downloads can provide you with unique tips to help you lose the excess pounds without cutting into your day.

Being a mum is hard work – as wonderful as children are, it is important to consider your own health and wellbeing as well as theirs though. Simply by being creative and using your time effectively, you can lose your baby weight without the need for lengthy gym sessions.
