Yoga sessions usually start with the ‘mountain pose’, a straight standing pose, accompanied by a short prayer or chanting. This is followed by sun-salutations, which start out with a stretch upward and then a forward bend. This forward bend is very good for tightening leg muscles and firming your thighs. From your forward bend you go down into plank which is like a press-up except that you hold the pose, keeping your arms and body straight. The sequence moves dynamically and if done quickly makes a great cardiovascular warm-up as well as warming up your body in preparation for stretching.
There are certain poses that are excellent for building muscle tone, as you sculpt your new figure. Warrior pose is great for toning up as it really works your legs and core muscles. This is a standing pose where you have one foot forward and one stretched back while your arms are stretched upwards to the heavens. There are other poses such as low plank which require you to use more upper body strength and core muscles. The strength poses should be paired with relaxed stretching and full relaxation to reap the full range of wellness benefits. Exercising the full range of muscles really helps to keep your body toned and maintain a good posture, essential to your wellbeing.
