- A Bra’s under-wire can cause breast cancer – This is in no way true. It’s a myth which isn’t based on any study or data at all and is probably the result of Chinese whispers and people taking things far more seriously than they should. The thought was that the under-wire would lessen lymphatic drainage from the breast but again, this is entirely untrue.
- Antiperspirants can cause Breast Cancer – There’s no links between antiperspirant use and breast cancer likelihood. It’s been said that some of the ingredients used in older deodorant bottles may have increase oestrogen production or even been mildly carcinogenic themselves but there have been no definitive studies to say that this is in any way true. Doctors agree that there should be more research done into this area but in no way suggest limiting your use of antiperspirants.
- Radiation from X-Ray and other Screening Tests cause cancer – Technically yes, all radiation has the potential to cause cancer. But it’s reminded that mammograms (which are a type of X-Ray) use a very lose dose of radiation which shouldn’t prove harmful at all. Other scans like MRI’s and ultrasounds don’t use any radiation at all and are completely safe.
