Eric and Adam Chatten share their genetic makeup and last week the pair shared the podium at the B.C. high school track and field championships.
The twin brothers, who are both grade 11 students at Coquitlam’s Gleneagle secondary, topped the competition in high jump, bringing home gold and bronze medals.
Eric was the winner, jumping two metres in the competition, while brother Adam took third place with a 1.95 m jump
The Chattens were not the only Tri-City athletes to make the podium at last week’s provincials in Langley.
Jasmine Lew, a Summit middle school student, broke her personal best in long jump with a 5.1 m hop, taking first place in the contest. She also took home a silver medal in the 100-metre dash with a time of 12.68, 0.1 seconds behind the first place finisher.
Meanwhile Brittni Wolczyk, a student at Port Coquitlam’s Archbishop Carney, took gold in senior girls’ javelin. The grade 11 athlete won the event with her final throw, which went 45.19 m, the same distance that helped her win gold at the Fraser Valley championships.
Wolczyk will add the medal to her collection, which includes a bronze medal in the event from grade 9 and a silver medal from grade 10.
Addy Townsend, a grade 11 athlete at Dr. Charles Best secondary, took home the gold medal in the women’s 800 m senior run, while teammate Chanell Botsis took home bronze in the women’s hammer throw.
Teagan Rasche also saw some success in the throwing events. The grade 11 Riverside Rapids athlete took second in the senior hammer throw with a 53.09 m toss and second in women’s javelin with a 44.97 m.
Grade 12 student and Terry Fox Ravens athlete Nathan Wadhani dominated in the long-distance running events. The 17-year-old took first place in the 1500 m race with a 3:56.14 and followed up the performance with a second gold medal in the 3000 m race, which he won with 8:38.75.
Meanwhile, Heritage Woods Kodiak athlete Amelia Cairns took second place in the 1500 metre steeplechase in the junior category, recording a time of 5:25.08.
