Army shooting champs get medals, plaques

MANILA, Philippines–The Philippine Army over the weekend gave due recognition to its shooting team that topped an international shooting competition last month.

 

Eighteen team members received Military Merit Medals and Plaques of Recognition, the Army said in a statement on Friday.

 

The awarding ceremony held at Training and Doctrine Command Headquarters in Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac, was followed by a novelty shoot and fun shoot.

 

 

Beat 14 teams

 

The Philippine Army Shooting Team beat 14 teams from different countries at the Australian Armies Skill at Arms Meet (AASAM) held at the Combined Arms Training Center in the Puckapunyal Military Area, Victoria, Australia, from April 28 to May 18.

 

The Filipino shooters outshot the competition from Australia, Brunei, New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, Tonga, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, Canada and France.

 

 

72 total medals

 

The team, which is led by Lt. Col. Palmer Parungao, won a total of 14 gold medals, 56 silvers and two bronzes at the AASAM, the Army said.

 

The team also received the Commander in Chief Trophy, described as “the most coveted trophy in the competition, after successfully defending their place in the Team Champion Shot Match.”

 

“This most recent championship indicates that the PA Shooting Team possesses world-class skills at arms,” the Army statement said.
