CHIEF Kanyesha of Luano in Central Provincehas urged Government to quickly announce the revised floor price of maize to enable peasant farmers who intend to sell their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to plan.

Chief Kanyesha said in an interview from Luano on Wednesday that his subjects have harvested their maize and are waiting for FRA to start buying the grain.

The chief is concerned that private maize buyers have entered his chiefdom and are buying maize cheaply from his subjects.

“We have a lot of maize but Government has not fixed the floor price of maize. We need FRA to come and start buying maize now because some private buyers have already started buying maize,” Chief Kanyesha said.

It is important for Government to set a floor price that would be profitable to farmers.
