One of London’s most popular art exhibitions opens Saturday at H.B. Beal secondary school.
Bealart’s annual three-day year-end show and sale showcases the talents of about 200 students who attend what many consider to be one of Canada’s premiere secondary school art institutions.
“It is always exciting to see the work that has accumulated over the year finally on the wall, to witness the talent of these young artists, and to promote the future of art in London to the community of which Bealart is a grateful member,” said teacher and artist Jeffrey Heene.
Hundreds of paintings, drawings, photographs, video installations, ceramics, sculptures and more will be up for public viewing and purchase.
The annual show draws collectors and galleries drawn by the opportunity to buy the early art of promising talent.
Heene said the young artists transform the basement of H.B. Beal Secondary School “into a vast gallery as part of the program’s curriculum” and are responsible for cleaning, painting walls, matting and pricing their works, as well as hosting guests.
“Students are responsible to prepare the works for sale and promote the show to the community, with the expectation that this experience will give them a real-world view of the life of a working artist,” Heene said.
