Boxing – Froch takes a Tumble on the Beeb

Froch will be ‘vaulting, tumbling and doing roly-poly’s’ along with a bevvy of celebrity contestants, all vying for the public vote.

The super middleweight boss said: “After a fight of such magnitude it will be great for me to get my body and mind stuck straight into a new discipline.

“I am excited to learn these new skills as gymnastics, backflips and somersaults are something that have always impressed me and I have wanted to be able to do.”

Celebrity gymnastics is the latest innovative sports/art/celebrity concept to roll out of the BBC ratings think tank, following pro-celebrity dancing and snooker. In this format, competitors will train with experienced gymnasts for the Saturday night show, which is being hosted by Welsh One Show presenter Alex Jones.

Before his first fight with George Groves last November, Froch tripped the light fantastic with partner and soon-to-be-trouble and strife Rachel Cordingley in ITV’s ‘Stepping Out’ show. But eight weeks away from the Groves clash, Froch pulled out of the competition, citing a back injury. Unfortunately for some contestants, this was just before the ‘Partner Swapping’ segment of the show began.

Froch will be joined in the contest by such legends as former TV fitness guru Mr Motivator, AKA Derrick Errol Evans, and Ian ‘H’ Watkins, formerly of chart-smashing pop quintet ‘Steps’ (and not to be confused with musician Ian Watkins, a committed, organised paedophile who was sentenced to 29 years behind bars in 2013).

‘Tumble’ bosses have lined up Olympic gymnast Nadia Comaneci and the London 2012 medallist Louis Smith MBE – already a seasoned veteran of celebrity shows after appearing in Strictly Come Dancing (and not to be confused with professional choreographer, Louis Spence, who has sashayed his way through many reality TV shows).

Also taking part in the series will be EastEnders actor John Partridge, Loose Women panellist Andrea McLean and former Sugababes replacement warbler Amelle Berrabah.

Celebrity gymnastics is the brainchild of BBC commissioning executive Rachel Ashdown, who revealed: “These celebrities are embarking on a gruelling training regime combining aerial and gymnastic skills.

“They’ll use them all to deliver breath-taking performances that you’d expect from the department that also produces Strictly Come Dancing.”

The early money to take the ‘Tumble’ trophy is on John Partridge, aka Christian Clarke in Eastenders, who he happens to be a trained ballet dancer and choreographer to the stars.
