After competing in three qualifying track meets, AHSS sent six students to the OFSAA Track and Field Championships in Mississauga. Thursday June 5was the first day of competition.

Almaguin’s first competitor was Darryl Gordier competing in Senior Boys Javelin. Darryl had a huge first throw of 50.77m which was a personal best and a new school record! He was ranked 12 going into the competition and finished fourth overall.

Aidan Anger competed in midget boys pole vault on Thursday and midget boys discus on Saturday. This year was his first time doing these events. In pole vault he had a personal best jump of 3.05m which was 60cm over his previous best height. He tied for fifth place overall. On Saturday he started the discus competition with a good throw but then ran into foul problems. His first throw was enough to get him into the top eight for the finals. He saved the best for last and had a monstrous throw of 41.33m which was almost 3m further than his last personal best. This put him in competition for a medal with one round of throwing to go. His distance held up and he won a bronze medal in the midget boys discus.

Hudson Booth was also competing for the first time as a midget boy in the 100m and 800m ambulatory race. His 100m race was on Saturday where he faced some stiff competition but never gave up and finished in fifth place. His big race, the 800m, was on Saturday. He has had a fierce training schedule since the start of the season to prepare for this event. He had an amazing race and crossed the finish line in first place winning a gold medal! He not only had a personal best time but also broke the OFSAA record by seven seconds.

Claudia Schlosser competed in junior girls 300m hurdles. She finished in eleventh place and broke the school record twice in the process. Andy Coleman competed in midget boys Javelin and had a 15th place finish. This is Andy’s first season throwing. Krysten Walkinshaw competed in junior girls pole vault and finished in 19.
