White wins on 1-meter at Region Championships

MOULTRIE — Abi White got Moss Farms Diving off to a strong start in the USA Diving Summer Junior Region 7 Championships on Friday at the Moose Moss Aquatic Center, taking the gold medal in 11-and-under girls 1-meter event.

 

Three Moss Farms divers finished in the top four of the event, with Ruth Anne McCranie placing third and Jordan Avery fourth.

 

In 11-and-under boys 3-meter, Timothy Fagan was fourth, finishing just .05 out of a tie for third. Teammate Carson Tyler was fifth.

 

Also on the first day of the Region Championships, Kelliann Howell of Moss Farms was fifth in 14-15 girls platform event; Parker Hardigree was third in the 14-15 boys platform; and Walker Lewis was 14th in the 16-18 boys 3-meter.

 

Moss Farms has a promising group of 11-and-under girls and they did not disappoint on Friday.

 

White scored a 203.80, beating second-place Sophia Verzyl of South Carolina Divers by 7.65 points.

 

McCranie was next with a 186.45 and Avery was right on her heels with a 183.30.

 

Also representing Moss Farms in the 30-girl field were Carolyne Turner, who was 11th with a 157.40, and Mauri Lee Leroux, who was 12th with a 154.85.

 

Fagan scored a 216.00 in the 11-and-under boys 3-meter, falling just short of Bennett Green of Tennessee Diving, who was third with  a 216.05. Tyler had a 194.70 for fifth.

 

Nolan Lewis of the Diving Tigers had a 143.85 to finish 10th in the event, which was won by Pine Crest Diving’s Kevin Mendez.

 

There were only four divers entered in the 14-15 boys platform, which was won by Tennessee Diving’s Jacob Silver with a 341.50. Hardigree’s 292.20 was good for third.

 

Howell scored a 247.25 that was just four points behind the 251.25 turned in by YCFT’s Jenna Pinheiro, who was third in the 14-15 girls platform event. Johanna Holloway, who was diving unattached, won the event with a 310.05.

 

Harrison Moncino of the Atlanta Diving Association was first in the 16-18 boys 3-meter with a 511.80.

 

Makayla Robillard of the YCF Diving Team won the 16-18 girls 1-meter.

 

Competition will continue at 9 a.m. today with the 11-and-under girls 3-meter and 11-and-under boys 1-meter events.

 

The Region Championships will conclude Sunday.
