Rosie Fry’s eventing blog: mistakes happen and lessons are learnt

Go to Source

Time is definitely running away with me and a lot has been happening since my last blog with a few up and down days.

Firstly, we had the 3 “babies” out competing at Ascott Under Wychwood in the BE100 a couple of weekends ago. Skippy (Abakala Flagmount) did another beautiful test for a 26.0, had a great clear showjumping and was on song for a 2nd win when I managed to muck up his great cross-country round. I got a bit carried away and was having such a good round that I failed to set him up properly for a spooky skinny, he didn’t lock on, resulting in a green run-out. I was kicking myself as he really didn’t deserve it. Oh well you live and learn!

Archie (Arise Cavalier) had a bit of a shocking dressage mark and I’m still quite confused as to what he did to deserve a 44, as I didn’t feel he did an awful lot wrong, but these things happen. He then went on to jump a beautiful confident double clear. I am so excited by the way he is growing up having been such a monster at the beginning of the year. Let’s hope he continues to do so.

Daffy (So Amazing) did a much improved dressage test for a 32.5, unfortunately made a couple of baby mistakes in the showjumping but again produced a very confident clear cross-country.

These 3 are out again at Nunney today in the BE100.

Frustration at Tweseldown

We then took Kitkat (Another Breakfast) (pictured chilling in his favourite pose) to Tweseldown in the open intermediate on Sunday. He was meant to be going to Bramham but we decided that we would save him for a 3-day later on in the season. He did a good test for 32.7, jumped a great clear showjumping and had a good spin around the cross-country, but sadly I didn’t get my line right to a tricky corner and he didn’t lock on properly.

It was frustrating having gone so well round the 3-star at Houghton, but mistakes happen and lessons are learnt from them. He now heads to Nunney for the open intermediate on Sunday.

Myrtle (In Vogue II) makes her intermediate debut at Nunney on Sunday having gone so well at Houghton, so a busy and exciting weekend ahead.

My retired 3-star mare Totten Lady has been at the vets this week to be artificially inseminated to Up With The Lark which is extremely exciting so I have everything crossed she takes 1st time.
