Squamish’s biggest August mountain biking event won’t be Just Another Bike Race (JABR) this year.

In addition to its usual profile on the B.C. bike racing scene, JABR will serve as the 2014 Canadian Mountain Bike Marathon Championships (XCM) when it takes place Aug. 16, JABR and Cycling Canada officials announced on Friday (June 13).

“Cycling Canada is really excited to collaborate with Cycling B.C. and JABR for the hosting of the 2014 Elite Canadian Mountain Bike Marathon Championships in Western Canada,” Mathieu Boucher, Cycling Canada’s performance development coordinator, said in a statement.

“The [XCM] annually attracts some of the country’s best mountain bikers challenging for the red and white jersey awarded to the Canadian champions.”
Said JABR race director Dwayne Kress, “This will expand on the success of mountain bike racing in Squamish and the West Coast mountain bike racing scene that already includes four Squamish cross-country mountain bike races, the fast-growing enduro series, Crankworx events with a Canada Cup cross-country race in Whistler and now a Canadian Championship Marathon race, all within the Sea to Sky Corridor.”
