The Long Beach Symphony’s Ovation! volunteers will host seven free Instrument Petting Zoo events at various neighborhood libraries, allowing children – sometimes as young as 3 years old – to experiment with making music. The first will take place Saturday, June 14 from 11:30am to 12:30pm at Brewitt Library, 4036 E. Anaheim St.
Using orchestra-owned musical instruments, the Symphony volunteers will explain how the instruments of the orchestra work, how they make different sounds and how they fit into the orchestra. Following the volunteers’ presentation, children have a chance to hold and play the instruments.
Though there is no age limit for the program, the Instrument Petting Zoo is ideal for pre-school and first-graders, as the program is a precursor to the Long Beach Symphony’s more in-depth Elementary Ensemble school visits in the second and third grades.
The Instrument Petting Zoo will take place:
Saturday, June 14 11:30am to 12:30pm, Brewitt Library
Thursday, June 19 11am to noon, Dana Library
Thursday, June 26 12:30pm to 1:30pm, Main Library
