The Arizona Department of Public Safety took 160 commercial vehicles and 164 commercial drivers off the roads last week, during a three-day enforcement effort along Interstate 40, near Flagstaff. Spokesman Bart Graves says one of the biggest problems was drivers, who had been on the road too long.
“A lot of these drivers are eager to make that bonus to get their product to their destination either ahead of schedule or on schedule because for whatever circumstances, employment pressure or so forth and they take unnecessary risks,” Graves said.
Graves says the drivers know the rules on how long they’re allowed to be on the road. He says other problems noted on the nearly 1,250 vehicles checked by DPS ranged from faulty brakes to unstable loads.
