One of the worst things you can do for your health is get obese. It’s all too easy to do though, with jobs being less physically challenging and people have less time to themselves on average, it can be tricky to find the time to eat right or exercise. Without this you could be piling on the pounds without actually eating any more than you once did, it’s a bit of a nasty trick of nature. Even though you’re doing more in your day, calling more people, making more decisions or whatever, you’re probably moving around less and thinking much less about your diet.
What’s this got to with arthritis? Well, in a recent study into the effects of obesity on our bodies, it was shown those of us who’re overweight or obese are as much as 7 times more likely to contract arthritis than those of us at a more healthy BMI. This is largely due to the strain that your extra weight puts on your joints, meaning they have to work harder to support you and wear down much quicker than they otherwise would. This wear and tear leads to inflammation and if it isn’t remedied it could lead to serious and chronic pain.
