Learn how to ID — and, more importantly, hook — a fish during “I Can Fish!” an introduction to the sport that includes a lesson in casting on the Rum River 3-5 p.m. Saturday, starting in the interpretive center of Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, off U.S. Higwhay 169 and Mille Lacs County Road 26 about 8 miles north of Onamia. Equipment, bait and instruction will be provided; Minnesota residents don’t need a fishing license. Park admission costs $5 for the day, $25 for a 12-month pass. For details, call 320-532-3523.

 

Reptilian introduction

Join herpetologist Jim Gerholdt and meet some of the turtles that inhabit Lake Maria State Park during an hourlong program starting 10 a.m. Saturday at the park’s trail center. Find the park off Wright County Road 111 west of Monticello. Admission is free; a donation will be collected to help cover speaker fees. Park admission costs $5 for the day, $25 for a 12-month pass.
