The 10th Annual Flemington Opa! Festival got underway on Friday evening, June 13 at St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church, 85 Voorhees Corner Road in Raritan Township.
The event runs through Sunday June 15, and offers a place for young and old to celebrate together enjoying traditional Greek cuisine, Greek music, folk dancing, vendors and children’s activities. Now celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary, the Flemington Opa! Festival has grown in popularity and last year served over 3,000 visitors from Hunterdon County and the surrounding communities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Guests can dine outside in the food tent or in the newly floored community center. The parish is conveniently located off of Route 202 near the Flemington traffic circle. The event will be held rain or shine. Parking is free. Entrance donation is $2 per person; children 12 and under are free.
This year’s festival includes a traditional Greek menu of grill and oven baked items, outdoor amusements, and a variety of items for sale in the Agora Marketplace. Visitors may savor grilled souvlaki, gyros, pastitsio, moussaka, spanakopita, and roast lamb shank. A Kafenio (Greek Café) will offer Greek coffee and pastry selections including the popular baklava, galaktoboureko, traditional cookies and cakes.
An outdoor taverna will complete the experience, offering beer, wine, and soft drinks. DJ Gus will provide Greek music, with entertainment from the St. Anna youth folk dance troupes. There will be outdoor amusements consisting of an array of inflatables for children.
Business sponsors will be featured on the festival website. Proceeds from the event will help support the financial needs of the growing parish and its many ministries.
Festival hours are noon to 10 p.m. on June 14, and noon to 7 p.m. on June 15.
