Aquatera has teamed up with I.T. Partners for its latest recycling event, the Business Electronic Spring Clean.

Beginning Monday, business owners are asked to round up all electronics no longer in use, which will be picked up and taken to the Eco Centre on their behalf. Tim Conrad, communications manager for Aquatera said the event is a means of encouraging and providing businesses the opportunity to properly dispose of their electronic waste, such as computers, televisions, CD players, fax machines, projectors and copiers.

“I.T. Partners recognized that when they were going out to service their clients that often, there was an old server laying around, or an old radio or something like that, an old microwave and ultimately, sometimes (with) those things, people still don’t know what to do with them so they just throw them in a dumpster and they end up in the landfill,” he said. “So we want to ensure that people are aware that even at businesses, they can recycle these electronics.”

A lot of the items, Conrad said, can be broken down into different parts and turned into something else.

“They separate all the metals and all the different components that are within each of them and recycle what they can,” he said.

Businesses who have any electronics that they are looking to get rid of can call 780-513-4455 ext 2 throughout the week of June 16-20. The products will be picked up and brought to the Eco-Centre at no charge. From there, the products will be boxed up and sent off to be recycled.

“The main goal is to keep it out of the landfill,” Conrad added. “All electronics have harmful chemicals and things in them that we don’t want to see ending up in the landfill beyond the fact that they’re recyclable.”

Other items that are able to be recycled include networking equipment, mix masters, coffee makers, and toasters. A complete list of items can be found http://aquatera.ca/solid-waste/eco-centre/.
