Chlamydia and why it’s always better safe than sorry

Of all the STD’s known in the world today, and there are a few, perhaps the most potentially dangerous is chlamydia. I say that because it doesn’t always come with the nasty symptoms associated with other STD’s, sometimes it doesn’t have symptoms at all. This might sound like a good thing at first, but when you consider than having the infection for a long period of time can cause all manner of nasty health concerns you’ll start to see the issue. Not receiving treatment for chlamydia can endanger your life, especially if you’re a lady.

If left untreated, chlamydia can lead to chronic pelvic pain, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility or an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is essentially when the egg implants in the fallopian tube instead of the womb, as the foetus grows it tears the tube which can lead to haemorrhaging and then, death.

As this STD doesn’t present as others do, it’s recommended that you get yourself checked at least annually at a clinic. Though, the common practise for those who’re having regular sex with more than one partner is getting yourself checked for STD’s every six months or so. As long as you’re doing this you should be relatively safe from harm. But remember that unprotected sex will increase your chances of getting an STD and as such chlamydia, if you have unprotected sex it’s important for you to go to the clinic to get yourself checked as soon as possible! Your health should be one of the most important things to you.

Sexual health clinics should be located in most major hospitals and cities and if you don’t know where your nearest one is then consult your doctor. Chat to them about any issues or worries you may have, they’re there to help not judge and they’ll refer you on should you request or need it.
