Painfully Dull Commercial for the 2014 Gold Wing. Why, Honda, Why? [Video]

A couple of days ago I ran into the Honda Gold Wing commercial you can watch after the jump, but it seemed to me simply too stupid to do some writing about it. However, after I showed it to several of my buddies and seeing their utter disappointment and almost disgust, I felt like I should try to poke Honda in a way, so there we go.

If anything, the Gold Wing is Honda’s flagship bike and one would think that all the commercials for such a motorcycle should be top-notch. Yet Honda makes a surprising move with this one, a painfully dull poor excuse for a commercial. Compared to it, the other cheesy crap BMW surfaced to advertise its 2014 R1200GS Adventure looks like the whole Dakar and Isle of Man TT condensed in several dozens of video. And man, billions of pages could be filled with stories the Gold Wing riders could tell…

However, this Gold Wing commercial not only misses the whole point of motorcycling, let alone touring, while it lacks any expressiveness and enticement to actually make people want to own such a bike. While other commercials would chose the teasing recipe and show only carefully chosen details and accents of what may be a rather bland bike to stress out its strongest points, others emphasize the importance of the very object as the ultimate goal, showing watchers the majestic beast in all its splendor.

This ad does neither, but brings instead the same cozy domestic atmosphere which the riders are actually trying to escape, with no decent view on the bike whatsoever. Honestly, if I didn’t know the Gold Wing and how cool this bike is, this commercial would definitely NOT raise my interest. After all, I am not into 50-years-old people, staying at home and riding my bike once in a while. Please Honda, don’t do this any longer to the Gold Wing, it doesn’t deserve such a mockery of a commercial. And do sack the guys who approved this crap!
