Sunday’s 17th annual Father’s Day 5K in Old Town Fort Collins attracted 479 participants in a celebration of health, fitness and fatherhood.
Some fathers ran the 3.1 miles adorned in a superhero cape. Several pushed strollers and others wore bright T-shirts, matching their sons and daughters.
Paul Petersen, 34, cruised to victory, running the out-and-back race on Remington Street in 15 minutes, 36 seconds. He also won the 1-mile premium, clocking a first-mile time of 5:01.
Abby Depperschmidt, 30, was the top female, running a time of 18:27 to finish eighth overall.
A pair of teenagers placed second and third behind Petersen. Cody Jones, 15, ran a 17:25, while Aaron Bonenberger, clocked a 17:34.
Laura Griffin, 33, was the second woman, finishing in 19:10. Nikole Johns, 39, ran a 19:49.
Forty-one pairs of fathers and sons competed in the father-son team division, while 57 pairs of father-daughters ran in the father-daughter division.
Bonenberger teamed with his father, Michael, to win the father-son combined age 61 to 74 division, while Jason and Cody Jones won the father-son combined age 60 and younger category.
Jim and Chris Hunter won the father-son combined age 75 and older division.
Steve and Julia Schlepp won the father-daughter combined age 60 and younger division.
Mark and Kacey Doner won the father-daughter combined age 61 to 74 division.
Aragon’s Army (Angelo and Monica Aragon) won the father-daughter combined age 75 and older division.
