It looks like yet another company, this time from Uber co-founder Garrett Camp, will soon enter the online restaurant reservations arena. According to Business Insider, Camp will work on the project, called Reserve, with Foursquare co-founder Naveen Selvadurai. Reserve is a part of a new umbrella company launched by Camp called Expa. It appears as though the company will be based in San Francisco with Selvadurai writing in a blog post that he will serve as an East Coast partner based in NYC.
The duo started teasing Reserve across social media channels late last week, but haven’t revealed much information: The website states that “a better dining experience is coming.” Reserve’s only tweet suggests that it will launch in the Fall of 2014 and a Facebook status update from Camp hints that it will begin testing in NYC. The project has been in the works for a while now: Business Insider notes that per his LinkedIn page, Reserve’s CTO Timothy Knight has been working for the company since November.
Camp has raised $50 million to fund Expa projects, so it looks like Reserve won’t have much of a cash flow problem. However, Expa’s bankroll is nowhere near as much as that of its biggest competitor, OpenTable, which announced last Friday that the Priceline group will purchase it for $2.6 billion. The news also comes hot on the heels of the launch of Resy, the restaurant reservations app created by Uber investor Gary Vaynerchuk and Eater co-founder Ben Leventhal.
