A rising life expectancy leads to complications of its own

Type Two Diabetes is a condition which, though not curable, can be managed relatively easily once the initial shock passes by. With several lifestyle changes and the right amount of tenacity and persistence type two diabetics can do pretty much anything non-diabetics can do, providing they’re extra cautious and put their disease first. In many cases, diabetics ignore their condition due to carelessness or simply not knowing that they have it, these people are at risk of all sorts of medical complications and eventually, death.

If you’re careful with your condition, then you can live a long and full life with type two diabetes. However, diabetes will add all manner of complications to your golden years and will take even more consideration than it ever has in the past. Most elderly people have at least one health complaint to contend with a fair proportion have to deal with more than just the one. We’re living for longer and longer because our treatments for these conditions and general standards of living are improving which in turn raise the amount of time we can survive for. The life expectancy is constantly on the rise and with it people are having to deal with more health complaints for much longer.

The important thing to take into account if you’re older and suffering from type two diabetes is that Doctors need to know about it. If you’re being treated for a separate chronic condition then you may be seeing more than one doctor, it’s important that they all know any other treatments that you’re undergoing so that the treatment for one condition doesn’t adversely affect or react with, another.

Keep your health professionals in the know and you shouldn’t experience any complications from your type two diabetes, don’t just expect them to automatically know everything about your medical history.
