The North Island Gymnastics Championship in Auckland at the weekend proved a springboard to higher honours for two Wanganui trampolinists.
The Wanganui Boys and Girls Gym Club sent three trampoline gymnasts to the compete against clubs from all over the North lsland and Jamie O’Hagan, Chris Joseph and Briar Limpus represented their club well.
Joseph, who turns 12 today, claimed bronze on the double mini trampoline (DMT) and on trampoline in the boys 11-12-year-old age division.
Sixteen-year-old Limpus also bagged bronze on DMT and gold on trampoline in the women’s 17+ age division.
Wanganui head coach Kelly Taylor-Ward said the podium finishes were significant given the level of competition.
“The North Islands always feature strong teams from throughout the island – Auckland has four clubs alone.
“All three gymnasts are now looking forward to their next competition in Rotorua in July and are training more difficult skills to add to their routines,” Taylor-Ward said yesterday.
