How Pomegranates can boost Health and Wellbeing

In recent years a variety of fruits from around the world have become increasingly available in most supermarkets. One fruit that has become particularly popular in both a raw and juice form is the pomegranate.

Pomegranates have been found to provide a range of benefits for health and wellbeing, including: softening arteries- the hardness of which can be a major factor in the risk of heart-disease and experiencing a stroke.  In a recent study, subjects who drank six ounces of pomegranate juice a day experienced a reduced risk of atherosclerosis, a condition that leads to arterial wall hardening.

Pomegranates can achieve this by being rich in polyphenols, tannins and anthocyanins which are more commonly known as antioxidants and can help to reduce the DNA damage which often produces many critical health ailments.  Whilst the antioxidant levels in pomegranates and pomegranate juice is known to be higher than other juices, fruits such as blueberries, cranberries, oranges and red grapes are also rich in antioxidant composition. These fruits and juices can be easily integrated into your daily diet and are also rich in vitamins that can help to improve other aspects of your health.

Interestingly, studies have also revealed that red wine contains properties that reduce cholesterol levels and black tea can help reduce the damage to the lining of arteries that is also a cause of heart-disease.

As well as black tea, green tea has often been associated with wellness, and can be especially useful in regulating cholesterol levels in the body. This helps to reduce the onset of heart-disease, and can optimise and boost the effectiveness of the body’s cardiovascular system by improving the purity of blood.

The pomegranate has symbolised health, wellbeing and longevity for centuries in China, and when we consider the health benefits it can provide, it is easy to see why.
