There are a lot of therapies for osteoarthritis and all of the various other arthritis’, many work and many don’t. Many have been tested and many haven’t. There are some which involve large quantities of medication taken at regular intervals and there are others which involve wearing bracelets lined with magnets or acupuncture. Whatever you chose to try is up to you, the point of fact is that there are a lot of treatments and as such finding one which actually works for you can be a bit of a challenge.
Over 200 studies have shown that gentle but persistent exercise can be a great way to alleviate the pain which osteoarthritic causes as well as the mobility issues it can later entail. There were a wide variety of exercises which proved to be beneficial to osteoarthritic patients and it’s entirely down to you to decide which you’d rather do. What was true in every case was that those who kept going with their exercising felt the most benefit.
Water aerobics can be a great place to start as you get all the benefits of general mobility exercises without all the stress and strain put on your joints. This means you’ll be able to build up some endurance before you try the more strenuous exercises and when you do try them they’ll be less painful initially for you.
Strength training can also be handy as it focuses on individual muscle groupings, generally centred on specific joint. This means you can target the joints which are causing you the pain and discomfort and by slowly working up some endurance, you can work on alleviating those symptoms!
Whatever you decide to do, remember to keep it up! All patients who managed to continue whatever exercise regime they’d decided to take off showed by far the most benefit and easing of symptoms!
