The Diabetic Diet Dissection: Part 2

Welcome to part two of my diabetic diet dissection. I’ve already looked at things like the importance of breakfast and how high fibre content can lead to low blood-sugar. This final section will look more at what you can do as opposed to what you can eat. So lets get to it.

  1. Micro-Meal-Management – If you break down what you’re eating into three or more smaller meals every day you’ll find your blood-sugar levels much easier to manage as you’ll be giving your body more time to deal with your intake. It’ll also be dealing with smaller quantities at any one time and as such it’s much less likely to get overwhelmed. Smaller meals more often will help to prevent overeating as you’ll find you get less hungry throughout the day.
  2. Attainable Goals – We are, all of us, human. You can only manage so much and you’re not going to go from your old ways to your new sparkly lifestyle in a day or even a week. Set yourself weekly goals which you think you can obtain and make sure to celebrate any achievements you do make! This isn’t an excuse to be lazy, you still need to challenge yourself just don’t overdo it and leave yourself depressed at a lack of progress!
  3. Support Systems – As I say, we’re humans and as humans we need people to help us. Don’t try and go it alone, as friends and loved ones for help and I’m sure they’d be delighted to help you ensure you live a long and healthy life. There are groups set up for weight loss which you can join and even specific diabetes help groups too! The potential for help is everywhere so don’t take too much on on your own!
  4. Do Not overeat! – You’ll lose all the progress you’ve made and leave yourself feeling depressed as you watch all that hard work come to nothing. Know yourself and how you’re likely to react to things and learn to manipulate that desire to overeat. If you know you’re likely to at certain times of the day then make sure there simply isn’t enough food to in the house or recruit a friend to make sure you don’t!
