The misconception is that diabetics can’t have anything sweet or processed without risking blindness and ultimately death. This is totally untrue, providing a diabetic is careful and monitors both what they’re eating and their blood-sugar levels they can partake in pretty much anything the general population can though probably to a much lesser extent.
When it comes to a slice of cake, for example, providing our hypothetical type two diabetic knows exactly what’s in it then they can decide how much they can have. It’ll rarely be a huge amount but once they’ve worked out what’s going into their body they can balance their blood-sugar with other things and counter any danger they may have been.
The trick here is moderation. Type two diabetes changes lives but it doesn’t have to do so as completely as it may appear. Type two diabetics need to be a lot more aware of what they’re putting into their bodies and the effects that those foods will have on their blood-sugar levels, if they are then they can prevent damage from occurring and still enjoy the foods they love!
