There are other things which can lead to you contracting type two diabetes and oddly, these things are more or less the same as what are thought to be the causes of type one diabetes. Type one is thought to come about for two reasons, through an environmental provocation (exposure to a certain toxin or bacteria) and through a genetic predisposition. There is limited evidence for both factors but nothing overbearing or defining for either. The causes of diabetes are a bit of a mystery and though lots of research is being done into this field, very little rock solid fact has emerged as of yet.
If you’ve got family members with type two diabetes, this doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to get it or are even more likely to. Type two is most commonly brought on when we ourselves mistreat our bodies, let them get too large and damage the capacity at which insulin can remove sugar from the blood. This is called insulin resistance and it’s very common in the overweight population.
To conclude and wrap this all up for you, skinny people can get diabetes too but they’re much less likely to. Scientists aren’t entirely sure why these people build up an insulin resistance but they do so. If you’re slim but are worried you’re developing the symptoms of diabetes it’s best to go and see your doctor all the same. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
