Nobody Wants To Feel Faceless And Unimportant…

Work environments have changed a lot over the course of the last few decades and since the recession came into full swing they’ve altered even more. There are more workers going for every vacancy and there are fewer jobs on offer in general. People who’ve found employment are holding onto their positions fiercely and in doing so employers are pushing them harder because they can. A company will always pursue productivity over everything else, which is what you’d expect really.

As employees are now largely transient, spending less time in each job and moving position much more frequently than ever before, employers are doing less for them. There’s less need to as they have less of a permanent employee base. This is great news for the employers but terrible news for the employees and the benefits of working for certain companies have rather dissolved. It’s one sided at the moment simply because if a worker does something wrong or untoward it’s not that hard to replace them, so many people are currently looking for work that there are always a few who can be quickly found to take that role.
A more positive work environment in which the company actively looked to improve the day to day experience of working for them would massively benefit both employer and employee, a new study reveals. What this means is, that though companies think they’re saving money by providing less, they’re actually losing it. Employees simply aren’t as dedicated and don’t feel the same passion that they once did, and why should they? In the current economy they feel replaceable because in a lot of cases they are. People don’t want to feel faceless and unimportant, when they do they care less about what they’re doing and it becomes much more of a chore.

A happy employee is a productive employee. I think it’s time we remembered that.
