Worried About Diabetes? Don’t Be Afraid To Ask Your Doctor

It’s always best to catch a condition early. This is true of everything from the most benign of colds to the most severe of cancers. Doctors stand a much better chance of effectively treating a condition if they can start treating sooner, before it really gets its hooks into you. This is certainly true of diabetes. A lot of the damage which diabetes actually does is so subtle that it might be years before you truly notice it, adversely it could just take months. The point is, you’re not going to  realise that you’re unwell until you start to lose your vision, a cut on your foot turns septic or your kidneys start to fail.

You don’t need to get continually checked for diabetes, what you do need to do is learn what the warning signs of the condition are. If you notice any number of the following then we’d strongly advise going to see your doctor and getting yourself tested, better to be safe and better to catch it early!

  1. Excessive levels of thirst, more than you’d usually experience. This occurs when you start to lose more and more water as urine and leads to the desire to drink much more than you generally would.
  2. Excessive Urination. This goes along with the previous point, the more you drink the more you’re going to pee. Urinating too much can cause dehydration which has its own set of risks and issues.
  3. Obesity can actually be a massive trigger for diabetes. ¾ type two diabetes are obese and as such if you’re obese or overweight then you should consider yourself in a high risk group and take extra precautions to protect yourself.
  4. Fatigue. Diabetes can leave you feeling constantly exhausted and run down. This is partly caused by your constant drinking and urination but also because your body isn’t processing blood-glucose as it should and this is one of its primary energy sources.
