For a number of years, studies have shown that a daily chromium supplement can help lower blood sugar levels. Those studies tended to use chromium picolinate. But a new study has confirmed that chromium dinicocysteinate is actually more effective either than chromium picolinate or a placebo in preventing type 2 diabetes.
Chromium is one of the essential minerals in our bodies, and it plays a role in regulation blood sugar levels. This obviously means it has huge potential in managing diabetes, which is a disease that can be caused by a very high blood sugar level.
However, clinical studies had been disappointingly inconsistent. While some claimed the supplement had reduced blood sugar level and the need from insulin, others simply reported that there was no significant change. This new form of chromium supplement casts a new light on the issue.
74 patients took part in the study. The patients were divided into three groups: 25 took placebo, 25 took chromium picolinate, and 24 took chromium dinicocysteinate for three months. The results showed that those taking the chromium dinicocysteinate had a 30 percent improvement in insulin levels and insulin resistance. The two other groups saw no noticeable changes.
It’s well known that a healthy, balanced diet is the most effective way to treat diabetes and that will always be preferential to taking supplements. Nevertheless, this research indicates that this form of chromium could be very effective in treating the disease.
