White Rice, Hidden Dangers And The Glycemix Index

When you think of the causes of diabetes you might get a little stumped. Type one’s cause is a bit of a mystery, scientists understand the process which is going on but they’re unsure as the reason behind it. Type two is better understood as it’s caused by insulin resistance which most commonly occurs as people gain excessive amounts of weight. However, that’s not to say obesity is the only cause of type two diabetes and though it may be true that ¾ of type two diabetics are obese that still leaves a quarter who have the condition and aren’t obese. Scientists struggle to explain this group.

We’re constantly learning more about diabetes but it’s a slow learning curve. Luckily diabetes can be lived with, you can make certain changes and watch for certain food groups in your diet and you can manage your condition and your health. It doesn’t have to be the end of the world. Of course with type one diabetes you’ll have to take regular doses of insulin as well as watching what you eat.

A staple food of Asia and one eaten all over the world is white rice and it’s recently been shown that this food could actually be a massive factor in the initial contraction of type two diabetes. White rice rates very highly on the glycemic index, which means it’s broken down by the body very quickly and has the potential to cause a massive spike in blood-sugar levels. This spike can cause damage if not properly managed and for diabetics it can be very difficult to do this effectively.

Researchers are recommending switching to much healthier brown or whole grain rice to help to prevent the occurrence of type two diabetes and protect your health and wellbeing on the whole.
