New Research Reveals Disappointing News For Fish Oil

One of the problems in living in our scientific age with research and studies and breakthroughs, is that it’s difficult to stay up-to-date with the best information. Something that you knew as a fact yesterday can be outdated today, and then flat-out wrong tomorrow. But with many issues directly affecting your wellbeing, it’s so important to you find out the best information on what’s best for you.

Fish oil supplements are a very prominent example. Fish oil is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which have been championed for their numerous medical advantages. However, a recent review by Greek researchers, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, revealed that contrary to many claims, fish oil supplements don’t actually reduce your risk of heart attack, stroke or death.

So does this mean that it’s time to abandon the concept of taking fish oil? Well, many experts argue no. The body still definitely requires plenty of omega-3 fatty acid in order for it to work correctly. It has also been reasoned that the substance has heart and brain health benefits beyond those that were researched in this study.

It has been argued that it might be a better idea to get your supplies of omega-3 fatty acid from food rather than from supplement pills. Food is known as a far better way for the body to absorb the nutrients it needs, and therefore it can offer far more health benefits than simply popping a pill in the morning.

Unsurprisingly fish are an excellent source, and you should try to get plenty in your diet to ensure you get the right levels. It’s best to grill or steam any fish you eat as this locks in the natural goodness along with the flavour.

Getting this fish oil in your diet may not provide the benefits that some people may have hoped, but it’s still very important to your overall wellness.
