Are Universities The Future Of Environmental Wellness?

Educating young people about the importance of environmental awareness is become more important, as scientists reveal worrying information about the future of our planet. Leading universities are now actively seeking to play their part, by taking responsibility for their students’ wellbeing through sustainability programs.

University research centres are often the location for the biggest breakthroughs in environmental science, and this role is taken seriously. Prospective students now have a choice of universities where they can learn more about environmental wellness, with courses offering practical information about the environment as well as real life work placements, giving graduates an even greater advantage upon graduation.

In a changing world, graduates with knowledge of climate change, global warming and other environmental issues are more in demand than ever. This is the case either in the specific field of environmental science, or in diverse fields such as law, business and technology, where a strong knowledge of environmental issues can be a strong asset.

Some of the top universities for this type of degree have now been named. Jacobs University in Germany was top of the list, being praised for a diverse student body and a field- and lab-based programme of environmental studies. The University of West Alabama was also named for a diverse range of courses available through their Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. Northern Michigan University drew praise for its small class sizes and a spectacular outdoor setting, while Vermont Law School was noted for one of the most talked-about environmental law programmes in the United States. St Andrews University was also named, due to its prestige, diversity and excellent geography-based programmes. Other universities named for notably good provision in the field of environmental science included the British Columbia Institute of Technology, the University of Washington, Flinders University in Australia and EPFL Switzerland.
