Worldwide Epidemic, Obesity Sweeps The Globe

Obesity is sweeping the globe along with the sudden availability of cheap and quick to serve processed food. You can find certain fast food restaurants in almost every country on the planet and this is starting to take its toll. Obesity comes with a whole variety of health complications of its own. You’ll be at risk for heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and even asthma! Obesity is one of the main reasons that type two diabetes is such a global issue and it should by no means be taken lightly.

It’s a common misconception that only the developed world suffers from issues with obesity. As fast food becomes cheaper it becomes available worldwide. Weight loss clinics are popping up all over the world to take advantage of the new obese demographic and in a lot of places weight loss surgeries are becoming much more normal. In Dubai, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, weight loss clinics have performed more than two hundred surgeries recently. A lot of the patients have been citizens but several have travelled in from outside the country.

Weight loss surgery generally refers to surgery which involves the stomach. Gastric banding is one of the most common and involves wrapping a band around the patients stomach so that they can’t eat as much and feel more full. Other procedures involve surgically removing a portion of stomach. Though the gastric band procedure is reversible, having some of your stomach removed is not. As such many weight loss procedures if not all should be used as a last resort and never a first port of call. Make sure you’ve exhausted all other options before you try this one. Weight loss surgeries are certainly effective but they’re also extreme.
