How Vegetables Might Save Your Heart

There are a lot of studies which suggest a lot of things but don’t actually prove anything. It’s important that you take this into account when you read about a study. They’re not definitive and just because they show one thing doesn’t mean that thing is necessarily true. Most studies are dis-proven eventually and very few are considered to be factual. With most things there are simply so many factors in play that it can be difficult to say anything for certain. All this being said, studies and research are how scientists learn new things and when enough studies are pointed at the same information people start to view this correlation as relatively factual.

A recent study taken in the UK has suggested that vegetarians are a third less likely to get complications of the heart than those who eat meat and fish. This research is backed up by previous studies which have suggested the same thing but scientists have always thought that it could be something much more lifestyle based. For example smoking or a lack of exercise will increase your risk of heart disease. If more meat eaters were obese (which is often the case) this too would skew the results in a certain way. This new study has gone a little deeper and has led certain scientists to believe that there’s something actually in the vegetarian diet which protects their hearts. More study will be required to fully explore what this could be.

Though a lot of evidence is pointing towards vegetarianism as a heart healthy alternative, it has its own problems. Meat and fish are our best sources of protein. It’s very easy for vegetarians to become deficient in protein which can be very dangerous for them.
