You may well have heard of aromatherapy too. It is a holistic approach that promotes health and wellbeing by the way of aromatic, plant-derived scents. It is a traditional method as well as a scientific approach that encompasses the intuitive and creative aspects of preparing special purpose blends.
You might not think, however, that aromatherapy is a sensible way of treating arthritis, but increasingly it is being used. Aromatherapy blends for the treatment of arthritis are usually made from pure essential oils. However, they can also use hydrosols and phytols. For application to the skin they have to be mixed with vegetable oil, a cream base or a carrier lotion. Essential oils must always be used diluted when they are applied to the skin, and this generally means diluting to around 3 percent essential oils to a 97 percent base. This is generally regarded as very effective and safe.
Despite the fact that arthritis is one of the most common diseases in the world, we still don’t understand too much about what causes it. This makes it very difficult to find effective treatments. This has led to more people using unconventional treatments like aromatherapy to try to deal with the problem. While more research needs to be done to show that this sort of treatment is effective, it is certainly very positive that people are embracing different methods.
