Acupuncture is a popular choice for those looking for complementary wellness therapies, but what if you don’t like needles? According to Song-Hwi Chi, who has been practicing acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine for more than 20 years, it’s possible to get great results with acupuncture using very few needles. ‘I don’t like to use a lot of needles,’ Chi says. ‘With the right placement, I only need one or two needles at a time to stop pain.’
Matthew Smith, owner of Bodylogic in Virginia (where Chi works), fully supports his employee’s approach. ‘He’s basically been doing acupuncture his entire life, as his mother was an acupuncturist and he learned from her,’ Smith explains. ‘We are very lucky he found us because his work is amazing. Song is the most highly trained and experienced acupuncturist in our area and I’m very pleased he is with us at Bodylogic.’
Smith’s enthusiasm comes, in part, from his experience being one of Chi’s patients. Smith turns to his employee for treatment for pain from multiple car accidents. Song’s work really does speak for itself,’ he enthuses. ‘When he came down here to meet me, he worked on me and I was amazed with how much better I felt with only two needles. Acupuncture is a safe alternative to medications as it helps relieve pain without side effects. With Song’s expertise, I have had long-lasting relief that does so much more than taking a pill.’
However, acupuncture doesn’t only improve your pain, but it can also help to improve your wellness if you have anxiety, sleep issues and depression. Chi, who received his United States acupuncture licensure from Baylor University in Aneheim, says, ‘I can also help allergies and give acupuncture face lifts by placing a needle in just the correct spot. Acupuncture can be used for so many things that people don’t think of.’
And it seems to be working for Bodylogic, which also has a variety of massage therapies, an infrared sauna and all natural skincare products. ‘We aren’t really a spa, but we do offer health facility that serves beauty from a wellness perspective,’ Smith adds. ‘By adding Song’s acupuncture expertise, we are able to give the community a more rounded relaxation and positive health experience.’
