The countdown is on! Spring will be here very soon and we all are ready for the change in weather, daylight and surrounding greenery. We don’t have to wait until good weather hits to start coming out of hibernation, however.
Get started early with helpful lifestyle shifts so you can start feeling fresh and ready for the new season early.
1) Start eating healthier now.
Many of us may have ditched the sweets and comfort food once the New Year rolled around—but, then again, many of us haven’t quite yet. Seasonal spring foods will abound in just a few short weeks, but you don’t have to wait to overhaul your eating habits in the name of a fresh start. Start throwing in more leafy greens into your meals, swap out a winter soup for a flavorful pesto-infused dish, or get back into the practice of eating more fruits daily. Your body will thank you!
2) Get a jump on spring cleaning.
Create a plan for tackling the major areas in your home, breaking up larger projects into chunks and taking into account daily or weekly upkeep tasks to make sure your space stays sparkling. Clearing out the cobwebs early will make for a more enjoyable summer, when it rolls around.
3) Move around!
Couch potatoey-ness is so very alluring during the cold, dark winter months. But the sun is sticking around a little longer each day and the temperatures will begin to even out before you know it. Get into the practice of moving your body regularly. Take a brisk walk in the cold, join a fitness class with a friend, or set aside some time each day to do an online workout in the comfort of your own home. Get your blood pumping for your physical and mental health!
4) Recalibrate your self-care routine.
The things that soothe us during the winter months may not be the same things that soothe us when it’s warmer out. Re-evaluate your routine for self-care to see if it needs an upgrade. Perhaps it’s time for less Netflix-binging and more reading. Or maybe now’s the time to start learning that new skill (knitting? calligraphy? car mechanics?) you’ve always been wanting to try.
5) Bring new life into your space.
You can take this literally by stocking your space with vibrant house plants or figuratively by otherwise infusing new energy into your home and office. Paint the walls, invest in a colorful throw rug, or swap out the photos on your desk for new ones that make you smile. The outdoors will be creating new scenery for us soon – why not do the same with our indoor spaces?
6) Start planning for summer.
If you’re someone who thrives during the warmer months, get ready! Plan a trip, a short excursion to a nearby attraction or weekly hikes and nature walks to make the most of your summer. Scheduling something big will require some savings, so start budgeting for a vacation now. If you’d rather keep it local, do some digging to see what outdoor activities are hiding around your area so you and your loved ones can explore them together.
