Home Remedies For Common Dental Problems

Tooth decay and cavities are among the most common oral health problems, often seen in children and older adults. Taking good care of your teeth is the first step towards great oral health but there are times when an immediate visit to the dentist is not possible. Here are a couple of home remedies for common dental problems in the family:

Clove oil: Because of its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antibacterial properties, clove is one of the most effective remedies for treating any kind of dental issue. It can numb pain and prevent the cavity from spreading.

Turmeric powder: It is a good antibiotic and also gives relief from pain. Dip a cotton swab in some turmeric powder and press it into the cavity for relief.

Eucalyptus oil: It is a germicide that fights plaque build-up, gingivitis and prevents cavities.

Salt water: It is, perhaps, the oldest remedy. Salt has cleansing properties so if you suffer from bleeding gums or an ulcer, dilute 2-3 teaspoons of salt in a cup of warm water and rinse your mouth out with it.

Cinnamon: Cinnamon is known for its antibacterial properties and is good for the teeth and gums. Chew on a small piece of cinnamon to get relief from toothache or then dip a cotton swab into cinnamon oil and place it on the area where you feel the pain.

Garlic: Garlic is a wonderful natural antibiotic and is extremely effective because it contains a compound called allicin that has a great antibiotic effect. You could have a garlic mouthwash by adding three-four crushed cloves to warm water and one teaspoon of salt. Chewing on a garlic clove also enables it to heal an oral infection, reducing pain and inflammation.

Never ignore dental problems because your oral health can affect the rest of your physical health. Get regular dental checkups for your family and see your dentist if problems persist.
