Physical exercises are very beneficial in many different ways; this is common knowledge. But not many realise that they do far more than affect just the physical body; they influence the mind significantly too.
When you work out, without distractions (you will need to leave your smartphone at home or in the locker, avoid idle chatting, as also not listening to music) you will have amazing outcomes. Because of the awareness of both your mind and body, you will be able connect the two together in a single harmonious unity. When you are not thinking of anything specific but are simply following one exercise after another, you get into a meditative mode. This creates a feeling of being energised and satisfied.
Exercising can have a highly positive impact when it comes to protecting your mind against, among other things, anxiety, ADHD and even depression. It improves your memory, recalling ability, helps you to sleep better, and boosts your overall mood. By boosting your mood, exercising can help you become more balanced and contribute to your contentment. If at all you need to, it can also get rid of your accumulated anger, providing a safe passage to your intense emotions – working out relieves stress by using the accumulated stress-hormones in your system.
Exercises like weight lifting, walking, swimming and running are also associated with cell growth in the hippocampus, an area of the brain, which is responsible for memory. Exercising improves your coordination, which will help you in your daily activities to work more effectively.
When you know how much a workout helps your mind, you might find it even more compelling to hit the gym or to go out for a good run!
