Could Google X End Up Saving the Environment From Space?

The Google X project has come up with a whacky new way to preserve environmental wellness. They have suggested putting wind turbine blades on a huge tether, orbiting in space.

Astro Teller, the top executive of Google X’s green energy product believes that this project could be a very important part of preserving the wellness and wellbeing of the planet earth, and help to improve the problem of world energy production.

This alternative wind turbine, which is still being finely tuned by Google executives, is going to be one of the biggest new products to come out of the Google X, and is described by teller as a ‘moonshot factory’ that has ‘Peter Pans with PhDs running amok’.

This environmental project follows hot on the heels of Google X’s Project Loon, which experimented with solar-paneled balloons in an attempt to bring Wi-Fi to the most remote regions of the Asia Pacific and Africa. Google Glass is anther innovative project from the Google X headquarters.

The latest project, however, the wind turbine project is being worked on in collaboration with Makati Power, a Californian start-up wind-power company. This company uses complicated robotics to help generate electricity to power thousands of homes. The idea is to harness the power of the wind turbine without the 300 tons of steel that usually come alongside them. This would be done by finding a way to tether the tips of the turbine in some way, and the technology does exist for this.

This would be a great deal cheaper and easier to maintain and activate than a normal wind turbine, not to mention the fact that it takes up a great deal less space.

The innovative new product is likely to hit the market in the next 20 to 30 year, straight from the ‘creation factory of ideas’ as Google X is now styling itself, and may make a significant difference to the environment.
