Dog brain structure varies across breeds and is correlated with specific behaviours, and, according to new research published in the ‘Journal of Neuroscience’, by selectively breeding for certain behaviours, we have shaped the brains of our best friends. Scientists studied 33 dog breeds and found that the wide variation in brain structure was not simply related to body size or head shape. The variation in behaviours across breeds correlated with anatomical variation in the six brain networks. It influenced behaviours ranging from social bonding to movement and more.
